If you talk about any city long enough it seems like you will eventually run out of new topics to discuss. And while this might be true for many, it is does not begin to describe the city of Boston. It is so full of intriguing contemporary cultural elements as well as amazing historic landmarks and monuments that these alone will take years to discuss so can you imagine if you tried to visit them all? In addition, there have been so many interesting characters that have come out of Boston and captivating events and phases in history that the topics for discussion could go on an on and be categorized in a few different ways.

In fact, complete history lessons could take place during a summer vacation and begin at one of the Boston hotels . For one thing, there is a chance that the hotel itself will be located in an historic building, but even if it isn’t there are numerous landmarks, monuments and other buildings that are located throughout the city and urban center. Paul Revere and the various landmarks that are associated with him and his famous ride that introduced the beginning of the Revolutionary War are just a start. Major historic personalities like Samuel Adams also has some landmarks in Boston, and of course the name is much more associated with the lager of the same name in contemporary society. But his name alone would be a great way to begin one’s exploration of this great city and the consequential lesson in history.

Many of us remember the Vietnam War and the protesting that occurred on nearly every campus across the country; however, not all have the same memories as students at Kent State University. In the weekend following President Nixon’s announcement that we would be invading Cambodia, anti-war protestors took their displeasure to a new level, including burning down an ROTC building. In response to the violence Ohio Gov. James Rhodes called out the National Guard to assist with controlling the mob. In the past only tear gas had been used to keep the students back but on that spring day nearly 2 dozen National Guardsmen fired into the crowd killing 4 and wounding several others.

The past forty years have been filled with hurt and pain both for the students, their families, and the university, but they will not forget. Memorials have been set up honoring those who died and soon they will be offering guided historical tours.

For more information on the events of that day and what is being done to remember, visit usatoday.com.

New Orleans was always calling to me. I know I’m not alone in this, because there are always the footsteps of others, living and dead, who have been here looking for the traces of Marie Laveau. Of course, tourism being what it is, there are plenty of people who have taken the opportunity to make a little money off of her name. For some of these, I don’t think she herself would have minded, because a lot of her life was characterized by the kind of showmanship that’s been popular for some time, and some of her actions can rival even P.T. Barnum in their ability to convince people that what she has to offer is exactly what they need at that particular moment. But there are also some extraordinary works that suggest she knew some things.

In the kinds of spiritual work where people’s futures, love lifes, and finances are on the table, there is a lot that a business-minded person can do. And in this part of the world, where old traditions come together with a history of poverty and struggle, there are some haunting things that come through at times. When I come here, I like to find a hotel online from this site, get settled in, then head out to explore some of my favorite places, and keep my eyes and ears peeled for the unusual. Opportunities always present themselves.

I’ve spent many hours puzzling over the crosses people carve at her tomb, wondering more about the hands of the carver than the body that might be interred within. We are all susceptible to reading signs that are not there, based on our own desires to see, and to understand. It was certainly operative in the people she worked with, in all the different kinds of council, whether it was the real deal, or parlor tricks. It was also operative when people began to mistake her daughter for another version of her. In the world of metaphor, of course, the daughter is a version of the mother, and Voodou is a system where metaphors can work as well as the original object, so maybe it doesn’t matter, ultimately. But I know I’ll never find any certainty, as her footsteps continue to get more complex with each moment that passes, complicated by the desires of people exactly like me.

Charlotte, North Carolina is a beautiful, warm and charming place to visit. I was surprised at how friendly everyone was, every where we went. I can not argue that southern hospitality is not alive and well in Charlotte.

Our stay in a Charlotte luxury hotels was perfect and relaxing. Everything was right from the friendly staff, the clean and nicely decorated rooms made for a nice stay over all.

Charlotte is a quaint city with a beautiful and varied architectural styles. Beginning in 1755 with the building of a house by Thomas Polk at the intersection of two native trading paths. The north south path was part of the Great Wagon Trail that stretched from the northern states through to Florida. This route brought many new settlers though the area, some which stayed, on their way further south. The east west rout is approximately where Trade Street runs currently. The settlement grew steadily in the subsequent decade and became known as Charlotte Town and was incorporated in 1768. By 1770 surveyors had marked off the grid pattern that is the basis for the street layout in Charlotte today.

Charlotte latter served as encampments for both British and American soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Charlotte was nearly destroyed during the Civil War. Post Civil War Charlotte experienced its first boom with the combination of cotton production and being a rail hub. The boom has reinvigorated the city once again as it is referred to as the Wall Street of the South, as many large financial institutions have headquartered themselves there.

Today Charlotte is a mixture of pre Revolutionary quaintness, Antebellum charm and modern high tech. Plain steel and glass towers are contrasted by carved stone and ornate wooden Victorian architecture. Charming streets line with magnolia streets carefully manicured lawns and gardens of southern splendor abound just out side the cities core. Charlotte is a wonderful city to visit for culture, history or business.

The city of Gairloch, Scotland sits on the incredible northwestern coast. This is one of the locations in the country that offer a bit of all that the Scottish Highlands has to offer. This city has strong ties throughout history to the sea, and has a diverse coastline from sandy beaches to rocky crags and cliffs. Many smaller islands sit off the coast and located inland are many lakes and ponds. This is a hikers paradise, as well as anyone interested in the art of landscape photography, and the mountain ranges are spectacular, views like no where else in the world. The famous harbor of Gairloch is located in Charlestown, close to many Gairloch hotels and various other points of interest in the regions. The Gairloch Golf course is located close to the harbor and sits along the beach-side. There are two beautiful churches from which the Free Church offers some of the most scenic points of view surrounding Gairloch.

The Gairloch Heritage Museum sits north of the city, alongside the Gairloch Lake in Strath. The museum has garnered awards for the vastness of the content and for the approach the curators have taken in setting up the exhibits. This is where the commercial district in Gairloch is located and where many travel to purchase from the variety of boutiques and shops. There are many smaller bed and breakfasts located in Strath , and campsites as well. These sit atop a hill that sits just close to the road that runs along the coast, so parking is easily assessable and one need not travel far in order to be surrounded by marvelous coastal views . One of the most popular activities when traveling through this region of the Highlands, are the cruises that take place in the Atlantic Ocean. These are ventures out into the world of the whales, dolphins and other marine life, just one more incredible photo opportunity. There are many chances to see these giant creatures up close, along with sharks, porpoises and a variety of rare and beautiful bird-life. This is one of the areas of Scotland that those who find themselves in nature will love and cherish.

The advances made in the last few decades in the systems of communication and the technology of information has transformed the ways in which anti-money laundering and anti-corruption organizations conduct their investigations. Now it seems that there is always an escape route which provides criminals with the easy means of vanishing the transactions of money made illegally through the assistance of electronic and computerized transactions.

This is an area of the war against corruption which must be monitored constantly, as the businesses of the world’s more advanced and wealthy nations have an advantage over businesses in countries that have no access to this side of globalization. Globalization and the state of a country’s economy have often times been connected to the evidence found and the occurrence of corruption. Developed countries are proving to be those that are more involved in the laundering of money, of bribery and of corruption. Ironically, corruption and poverty generally go hand in hand, and the gap between the wealthy and the poor gets larger as time passes.

With this kind of link between corruption and developing nations the law enforcement agencies as well as the justice systems are also believed to be becoming more entrenched in corruption. The justice systems of the world must remain honest and with integrity in order to effectively tackle criminal activities, as during this era of the threat of terrorism throughout the globe. Bribery and the threat of other forms of corruption serve to threaten the backbone of democracy and can even encourage some in society and the government in criminal endeavors. Accountability and transparency must be enforced. The public must become aware of the processes and practices of the police departments and the justice systems in order for all the information to remain open and under the careful watch of the public as well as the anti-corruption agencies.

There are so many unique amenities in our hotels in Mumbai that it would be impossible to list them all. There are, however, the industry standards that savvy travelers come to expect. For a city as stunning as Mumbai, with such a wide variety and sheer number of things to do, your concierge will be a big help in guiding you toward the main points of interest. If you can pull yourself away from the gorgeous accommodations, where style and design are impeccable, and hospitality is at a premium, almost an art form, Mumbai is full of fascinating adventures.

There are gorgeous restaurants, a sizzling night life, excellent star-gazing with the local Bollywood industry, and historical landmarks that speak of a complex past. There is also a fantastic diversity of cultures here, in one of the most vivacious cities on the planet, and Mumbai has long been home to artists, scientists, and intellectuals. One of its famous son’s is the U.S.-based theorist Homi Bhabha. Currently on the faculty at Harvard, he did his undergraduate at the University of Bombay before going on to Oxford. He lectures all over the world, and delivers some of the most prestigious addresses, as well as having written an astounding number of books and articles.

Often mentioned for his complicated writing style, Homi Bhabha has also won awards for some of the most impenetrable sentences in academic discourse. He also has a name for being an academic rockstar, a title given to very few scholars in the past decade. Homi Bhabha is perhaps most well-known for his notion of hybridity, where the botanical classification refers to ethnicities and cultures, to suggest that human speaking subjects, especially subjects who have lived under colonial ideologies, are a complex weave of identities, and their complexity in fact becomes a feature of the same identity. His ideas have taken root in all sorts of contemporary discourse, and his presence is a splendid sign of life wherever he speaks his subjectivity.

The very beginning stages of the planning for the New Parliament House located in Canberra, Australia were steeped in controversy, due to the disagreements over the location for the site. When that was finally agreed upon, a contest for designers and architects was held and the design was completed with the main building being placed in the space that once was a small hill. The roof of the building was a garden covered with grass, which still exists but is not longer accessible for the public based on past security concerns. The entire complex consists of different design elements. From the grass covered roof of the main building, to the grand facade, with passages connected by large walls, curved and existing on either side of the main entrance. Many of the buildings in the country are generally known to have built using sub-standard materials that have a live of less than one hundred years. Not so with the Parliament building, and while this did serve to raise the cost of the project, the results of the higher quality materials will ensure the life of the structure.

While the large building is an innovative and incredible site, some say that now, the ministers and cabinet members have places to hide, meaning that the public interaction with their government figures that was so inclusive in the smaller Parliament house, this has created a distance between those governing and those being governed. Regardless, many state that this will improve over time, as those interested will find their way through the maze of the architecture, and that feeling will once again be re-instilled. This has nothing to do with those working in the building, they are not trying to avoid contact, it is just the nature of the building. This is an impressive structure that draws many tourists during their visits to Canberra. Australia hotel staff are knowledgeable and will offer directions to the building. There are daily tours and lectures, there is a cafe open to the public as well as a number of shops and stores. And with the exception of Christmas day, the Parliament House is open every day of the year.

The Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain are beautiful and while often considered as a group, and do have common elements, they are each unique in their cultural heritage traditions, artistic expressions and diverse offerings. They are all popular tourist destinations, and many people who vacation there spend time on one or more island or islands. Majorca is the largest of the Balearics, and is also the most heavily populated. In the last thirty 30 it has seen a tremendous increase in the number of tourists it receives each year, and this increase has spilled over to the other islands. Minorca is slightly larger than Majorca, though it has a much smaller population. It is well known for its prehistoric ruins as well for the great festivals that occur there every summer. Ibiza is the third largest of the four main Balearic Islands and probably the most notorious. Formentera is the smallest these islands and is located very close to Ibiza. A short fairy trip easily conveys residents and tourists from island to island and is recommended to visitors on each island. Formentera is known for the beautiful clear waters the hug the white sandy beaches.

Ibiza may be notorious for its club and party scene, but that is not the only thing it has to offer, and it should be recognized for all of its elements. There are various tours available to thoroughly explore the island. And for those who like to do it on their own, Ibiza car rentals are extremely reasonably priced and ready for the active tourist. The two main towns on the island are San Antonio and Ibiza Town. These are also the primary locations from some of its most prestigious and popular nightclubs. There are also great restaurants, museums, landmarks and entertainment genres to keep all visitors engaged, interested and happy. The numerous beaches on the island offer great opportunity for water sports enthusiasts and are often full of sunbathers, swimmers, snorkelers and surfers. Most of the beaches have showers available and of course restaurants, cafes and bars and Ibiza resorts near by.
