Disney World is definitely one of the most popular attractions for children and adults alike in Florida. Aside from some of the sunny southern beach towns, that also most definitely attract tourists, this major attraction located in the central regional town of Orlando, draws guests from all over the world, even those staying in one of the West Florida hotels. It is also the largest and most popular world theme park resort attraction, with guests from around the globe visiting it throughout the year and enjoying the many different attractions, rides and activities that turn adults into children again.
It originally opened in October of 1971 as the Magic Kingdom park and has since grown and expanded its features to include Epcot, which was added in 1982 and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which was added in 1989 and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which was its latest development and added in 1998. This park was a continuation of Walt Disney’s ambition and vision, which had begun in 1959 with Disneyland in Anaheim, California. He chose the location in Florida because he wanted a larger ground area that would allow for greater control of the surrounding commercial development.
Each of the main theme parks associated with Disney World is structured and built around its unique theme and iconic ideas. Magic Kingdom was originally tied strongly with the concept of Cinderella’s Castle, which is the main focus of the park. This is the most popular of the parks associated with the resort community and it has been estimated that its 2008 visitation population was over 17,000,000 million, which easily lands it as the most popular theme park in the world. Some of the main features of this park include Main Street USA, Adventureland, which includes the popular rides Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise and Frontierland and Liberty Square.
