The Yorkshire Dales has a long standing challenge. To walk three peaks: Pen-y-ghent 694 meters, Ingleborough 723 meters and Whernside 736 meters. The walk covers approximately 26 miles which will take you through some of the finest limestone scenery in all of the United Kingdom. But, the challenge is, one must complete the walk in two days.
The terrain is considered moderate to strenuous. The peaks are not really mountains as such, but are high enough to give walkers enough exercise that one should be fit. Some paths have transformed due to high levels of erosion and have attracted thousands of walkers over the years, so care in needed. There have been some flagstone paths and steps have been constructed which makes the terrain a much more walker friendly place. Each peak has a series of steep inclines on uneven stone steps for ascent and descent. This will help focus attention and provides excellent experience and execise for future trekking trips.
There are plenty of Dales Hotels to book rooms for your overnight stays, or there are several tours that provide their own accomodations. Participants in the tours though, will need to be able to walk continuoulsy for 7 to 8 hours, uphill. They will be advised that in order to increase their stamina, they will embark on some training, regardless of ability or level of experience. Small changes in your dailey routine can make a huge difference, so they recommend incorporating some of these tips: instead of using the elevator or lift, use the stairs. Walk rather than take the bus or other transport to work. Make swimming a regular part of you workout routine. All of this is to ensure your walk will be a great walk and one with no injuries or mishaps.
