Dubai offers everything, it has beautiful and exquisite beaches, a lively urban center, and excellent shopping and sight-seeing. It is also becoming one of the most vibrant centers for global art. There are many local and international artists who make Dubai their home, and find inspiration from the city’s changing cultural scene. There are also customs and traditions here that give the artwork a grounding and sense of permanence, and adds an extra dimension to the works. It is interesting to trace how the art world has shifted in the past decade, and for Dubai, the shift is perhaps more obvious than anywhere else. A few auspicious art sales caused the world of curators and buyers to turn their attentions to the works and galleries here, and subsequent years have seen a boom in activity. One organization that has been active here, Magic of Persia, has been extremely successful in their Magical Nights in Dubai event.
This event is a benefit auction whose proceeds go to the Magic of Persia’s education programs, the Future Center for Special Needs, and the Omid-e-Mehr charitable foundation, which benefits disadvantaged young women in Tehran. The Magical Nights in Dubai event is very well-attended, with speeches by important dignitaries, performances, and a special dinner. The event features work by over 40 Iranian artists, representing some of the most stunning work from Iran to be shown in Dubai. It is an excellent chance to look in on the state of contemporary art in the region.
