Johannesburg, population almost 4 million with over 7 million in the greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Area, is the largest city of South Africa. It is the provincial capital of Gauteng, which happens to be the wealthiest province of South Africa. The highest court, the Constitutional Court is located in Johannesburg. Witwatersrand is a mineral rich range of hills where Johannesburg is located, thus providing a major source of income of gold and diamonds. The O.R. Tambo International airport is the largest and busiest in South Africa, providing international travel.
During your stay in Johannesburg, you will be amazed at the many fascinating tourist attractions you can visit. The stunning, architectural designs and detail of the modern and historic structures are a must see for any visitor. There is a vast range of museums, churches, market areas, fancy shops, nightclubs and bars for your enjoyment, but you have to experience Johannesburg fine dining. The superb and creative chefs painstakingly prepare the most elegant dishes to be found. The beautiful restaurants and attentive staff make for a true dining delight.
On the flip side of the city attractions, but just as popular are the wildlife preserves and national parks found outside the city. The parks are designed to be as close to the animals’ natural habitat as possible. One very popular park is the Addo Elephant National Park, home to over 500 elephants. They share this beautifully landscaped exhibit with rhinos, antelopes and a number of different species of birds. If you are a hiker, you will want the Giants Castle Game Reserve to be on your itinerary. Not only will you thoroughly enjoy the hike, the fabulous scenery and the wildlife are an added bonus. You will see plenty of eland antelopes and Cape and Bearded Vultures, as this is the breeding site for these, not so pretty, large birds. All in all, Johannesburg has so much to offer for all visitors. Put this city on your priority list of places to see, enjoy it all, remember it always.
