Caribou Coffee in Dubai
Posted by Cindy on June 25, 2009Travelers who have been around a bit know that a five-star hotel in Dubai is a very fortunate thing. It means that the guest is in for a trip that is spent in absolute luxury, with all the grace and hospitality one could ever hope for. The hotels are extremely cutting edge in design, and everything is the finest quality. And despite the sense that one is relaxing in a kind of heaven, far away from everyday concerns, there is also the assurance of being well-connected, where the state of the art in technologies are available in the room. There is a delightful combination here of the familiar and the new, with diverse cultures existing in the same place.
The UAE has a very long and fascinating love affair with coffee, and there are local rituals that are very exciting to learn. Dubai is a place where the old and the new come together, however, so it might come as no surprise to see that Caribou Coffee is here. It opened its first shop at the Dubai International Finance Center. The Arabian Coffee Company plans to open 250 shops in the UAE in the next decade.
Caribou Coffee with 16 different blends, and a very distinctive interior design, with wood panels on the walls and a decor to suggest a hunting lodge, is keeping its look and its selection as it starts to take root here. With Dubai’s reputation as a global center, and a lively youth culture, along with the population of local and expatriate artists, a coffee franchise here is a very astute idea. It will be fascinating to see how Dubai and the rest of the UAE responds to the coffee shops, and how they will start to modify them with their own cultural practices. There is an eagerness on all parts of the business deal to mix tastes and traditions, so that this U.S. export will start to become something with interesting local variations.
